There is one thing in particular that we humans cannot avoid… Something that, if we allow it, can take over and consume us… Something so beastly that it can overthrough our sense of judgment… This beast goes by the name: “green-eyed monster”…
Jealousy is a factor of life. It’s human nature to envy someone for something you lack or desire. Usually, we want what we can’t have, like height for example.. A person cannot physically change themself to become shorter or taller. And sometimes, it’s this very reason that makes us envy those who possess what we desire, but the inevitability of it proves how out of reach some longings we have are… It’s like a Zebra wanting spots. The improbable chances of a zebra ever growing spots often creates the well known green-eyed monster. For me, it’s hard to watch people with smooth straight hair or beautifully tanned skin and not feel jealous. I almost think as though when god decided what each person would look like, that I’d woken up late and missed the boat, leaving me with the leftovers… Thats the thing about humans though, we tend to only focus on the negatives and not so much the positives…
I try not to let the monster take over. Sometimes I can’t avoid it, but at the end of the day, so what? Sure they have nice tanned skin, but no ones perfect and they’re bound to have some falws of their own. Sometimes we just gotta push ourselves that extra step further to overcome the obstacles in life and to defeat the green-eyed monster. After all, spending too much time dwelling over saddness or jealousy only decreases the time left for happiness. And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years!
